9 Miles - Your guided preparation plan

Nine represents attainment, satisfaction, accomplishment, and our success to achieve an influence in
our circumstances. Your preparation journey for your exam is also accomplished by stepping through nine milestones.

9 miles is a revolutionary study plan to prepare for your exam where your understanding, your speed and your difficulties are more important than the syllabus, the chapters and the books themselves.

Why the 9 miles?

How many times during your preparation you came across the questions:

  •     How do I prepare?
  •     How much should I do on any chapter?
  •     How to complete the syllabus on time and do revision also?
  •     And the most important, I wasted so many days can I still catch up?

9 miles is an answer to all of those.

Everyone on simplylearnt.com get their 9 miles to cover up. They also have a fixed time to cover them up. We are there like a buddy to make a study plan for everybody for each and every mile. We want to see everybody go through their 9 miles before their exams arrive and also help those who lag behind.

How to do revision for exams

Introducing Revision Buddy

We hereby introduce our Revision Buddy (Prep Buddy’s kin) with a goal to help you revise your syllabus from time to time.

Revision Tools on SL

Flash Cards
Flash cards are a set of very important concepts collected by the Revision Buddy that are always difficult to remember. One side gives you a clue and the other side gives you the answer. Flip as many times to learn the concept

Solved Examples
On every chapter, Revision Buddy has selected some solved examples. Review them before you begin practicing. Solved examples keep changing so you can review them as many times as possible.

Tips and Tricks
Shortcuts, smart tricks, important results are all collected under tips and tricks. They will help you solve some questions faster.

Notes and Formula Sheet
Notes are available on each chapter with most important concepts of a chapter collected in a document. This is handy when you want to go over the chapter quickly. Formula sheet may not be applicable to each chapter but collects all the important formulae required to solve questions on that chapter.

Revision Tests
Not your usual tests on SL. They could be simple concept tests (for example, recalling formulae), improvement tests (collection of all questions you did wrong) or basic revision tests (created by you on one or more of important chapters)

Most important aspect of SMART preparation on SL is that a revision time is definitely planned but do not limit yourself to planned revision time. Do it as often as possible.

Get the ideal timing on your exam!

For most people, the final exam and the clock are not friends. Clock always runs faster than your exam and your paper remains unfinished. But when you have prepared hard for your exam it is unfair that you run out of time on your exam day.

Therefore, it is important your average timing on any question is close to the ideal timing required for any exam in order to finish the paper on time. For example, it will be ideally 1.5 minutes for NEET-UG exam and 45 seconds on JEE Main.

We introduce the Timing Buddy (Prep Buddy’s kin), your guide in your pursuit of a perfect timing. On simplylearnt.com, Timing Buddy helps you do all you need to improve your timing.

Best time to improve timing

It is when you have completed your syllabus or at least prepared all important chapters (See how to prepare a chapter).

How to time yourself

You can use any test to time yourself to begin with. A “timing test” on simplylearnt.com is shorter than your regular full length (3 hour long) paper, includes questions from all subjects of varying difficulty levels and would give you your average timing on each question. Timing Test contains 20 questions from a single chapter at a time.

You can use a pen and paper test with a stopwatch to time yourself but doing it online gives much more accurate results along with SimplyLearnt’s expert analytics.

How to improve timing

After you know your current average timing per question, you goal would be to improve it. Here are some tips:
a. Try to learn shortcuts, simpler methods and some important results on every chapter if possible. They will come handy when solving questions.

b. Prioritize your paper by doing the questions you are most confident on first, leaving the most difficult ones in the end.

c. In case you have doubts on a question, use process of elimination to get to the solution quick.

d. If you plan to leave the question, make the decision soon because your effort or time spent on the questions you leave blank will be a waste.

Getting the ideal timing can be a challenge because not all questions require the same amount of time and thus the average time is not close to the time you spend each question. The “timing test” takes care to present the mixed bag of questions but still it is important to keep taking the test many times to really master the timing.

Chapter Master - Bring perfection on a chapter

You may practice any number of questions on a chapter but being a “chapter master” has its own charm. Not only you solve questions on that chapter with super accuracy, you must also help out others who lag behind in the chapter.

How can you become a chapter master?

#1 Bring your Good Enough score to yellow – For a clear idea about the good enough score and the how to move from red to yellow or green, please read our article http://www.the9miles.com/2012/10/good-enough-meter-are-you-good-enough.html

Basically, you will be solving questions with a reasonable accuracy to get to the “yellow” level. We will give you clear instructions on exactly what you need to do next. You just follow!

#2 Participate in a discussion/question – Knowledge increases by sharing. So now when you are an expert, help others who are stuck on any question or concept. By helping someone, you will gain more confidence and build your concepts stronger.

#3 Post a doubt/discussion – If you are having any doubt or confusion on any concept or question now is the time to get it cleared by someone else.  Post your doubt or your question or just post a challenging question to test other students’ knowledge.

Your efforts in solving questions on any chapter and your contribution to the entrance exam aspirants group will make you the “chapter master”.

Why do you need an improvement test?

“To Improve” always should be the ideal guiding force for in your life. Similarly, when preparing for an exam you can prepare a chapter, revise as well but you need to actually improve your level in the chapter.  SimplyLearnt.com provides you improvement test on every chapter. We advise you to take it regularly.

What is an improvement test?

When solving questions you attempt certain questions wrong or leave some unattempted. Likely, you found those difficult or just made a silly error. You would have likely figured where you went wrong and now would be ready to solve them again correctly. An improvement test is a collection of all such questions so that you can repeat these again and again to become perfect.

When and how often to take this test?

Ideal time to take this test is when you have practiced some questions on SimplyLearnt.com. If you have not done a single question wrong, then this test will not give you any question. Take the test as often as possible after doing 20-30 questions on any chapter and take them at the time of revision with a fresh mind.
Your goal should be to get a 100% score in these tests.
